I had always been a misfit, during school, during college, even at work. I suppose I was just born to be quirky and nobody else really understood, except my best friend Karen.

Karen was beautiful, but was even more quirky then me! She was all about shocking people, on occasions had worn kilts around busy new york just to see peoples expressions. While Karen was this gorgeous knock-out, I was kind of mousy and small looking. It was true I had never had a boyfriend, and nobody really thought I was attractive. On occasion I was told I was 'cute', such a child thing to say to someone, like how a dog is cute. I wanted to be sexy! I wanted to be beautiful, but I knew that being attractive was out of reach so I was content being myself. And then one day Karen completely took me by surprise.

"Speed dating?" I replied, dumbfounded by her suggestion.

"Yeah, speed dating. It's the newest trend, and you'll meet all these people you would have never had the opportunity to have met before. Come on you'll try it with me right?"

Speed dating, I pondered it, was Karen crazy? Speed dating was where all the loser rejects went because they couldn't meet anyone in real life. Then it hit me, I was a loser reject who couldn't meet anyone to date me in real life. Suddenly I got really sad.

"Are you okay Claire? You don't have to come with me if you don't want to, I just thought it'd be a good experience, and you never know what could happen right." Karen gave me a genuine smile, and I knew she wasn't trying to be cruel by bringing up the lamest way of dating yet.

I ended up agreeing to go with her. She gave me a makeover and I was shocked by how much some honey highlights made my face look so much brighter! My red spots on my face were evened out with foundation, my eyes looked huge cause I was wearing some subtle fake eyelashes. And then Karen gave me an outfit that was meant to knock people off their feet.

I was mildly depressed I looked so good only to go to a lame dating gig, and wanted to go to a bar. But, when we walked in I saw the most drop dead handsome guy to ever exist. What's even better is, he noticed me. Can you say true love at first sight?

Maybe this lame dating isn't so bad after all.
